The area we live in here in South Florida is close to the Everglades and thus is a haven for different kinds of animals, including wild birds. We get a variety of birds in our backyard. I’m not sure what their names are, but some of them are very pretty to look at and they sing, too! I’ve thought for a while now about putting a bird feeder in the loquat tree in our backyard, and went on Pinterest to see what kinds of options were available.

There are lots of great DIY bird feeder options – some of them are cute and pretty, and others are very functional and green, since they’re made of recycled products. Here is a selection of my favorite ideas:

So, according to my 30 before 30 list, I’m supposed to replant my garden before my 30th birthday.

As I approach week 32 of pregnancy and am trying to catch up on the mountain of work that lies ahead of me before I have this baby, I’m thinking to myself that there’s no way this is going to happen before summer officially kicks in here in South Florida, since it’s already pretty hot outside and it’s only April. Plus I’m pregnant, which automatically means that I feel the heat x10 compared to a non-pregnant person. The very last thing I feel like I want to do is get on my hands and knees and dig the weeds out of the garden and replant new plants. If I’m going to do it, it needs to be in the next week or two, since our forecasted temperatures are a high of about 81 and a low of between 68-72 degrees. Not to mention, we are going into summertime, so that means I need to do a bit of research as to what will actually survive the summer heat until the fall.

I’ve been Pinterest-ing lately to see what kind of inspiration I can find for my garden. Some of what I’ve found is really cool looking and not something I would put together on my own, and other sites are chock full of gardening tips.

•••

One of the plants I’d like to grow again are strawberries. They are pretty easy to grow, very exciting for kids to tend to, and there is nothing more fun (for a little kid) than grabbing a couple strawberries off the plant to have for an afternoon snack. This site has some tips for growing them more effectively.

•••

I thought this diagram was pretty neat. While I enjoy having a garden, I don’t know much about the science behind growing different plants, and the idea that there are plants that can help other plants grow better is pretty cool.

•••

Like most people, I’m a fan of pretty things for the garden, so these home-made garden stone markers really appealed to me. I could totally make them with Zachary one day as a rainy day activity. Just need some nice stones!

•••

I always liked the idea of a hanging basket of plants. I have been thinking about something to do to pretty up our front porch, and this would be fresh and fun! It’s also a good idea for plants that tend to “take over” a garden, like basil or parsley, since they would be contained more easily.

Today is the 100-year anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking. It’s amazing how far the luxury cruise industry has come, and yet how much has stayed the same.

I love the new minimal movie poster trend and found some interesting artwork online, which I pinned to Pinterest and thought I’d share with you today in honor of the anniversary.

While browsing YouTube, I found this cute no-sew pumpkin craft from The Green Apple Home channel. It looks like something I might actually do since it seems easy and looks fun and adorable! Even though Halloween is over, it’s still pumpkin season for at least another month, so I think this would be a great activity to try!

I love the clean design and the little stars make me feel happy. It’d go so fabulously in my office when I give it a redesign next year! I love “fun” motivational quotes/design.

It originally came up as just the poster, so then I clicked through… found the Etsy shop of LuciusArt… and fell in love with it! Pretty much all of this guy’s stuff is awesome. Here are a few more of my favorites….

Chicago Neighborhood 8×10 print – type art… if I could find something like this for Miami or South Florida, it would be mine.

More city art, in the form of a heart shaped map. Again, totally wish he had one for South Florida, but I dig the San Fran wood block art print. San Francisco is one of my favorite places on Earth! How cool would some of his city art pieces be in a travel-themed child’s room? I can almost see it now…

If you know me you know how much I love pumpkin. In fact, love might not even be a strong enough word to describe it. I was pretty stoked to find this awesome “pumpkin pie-sicle” recipe via Pinterest the other day. It’s actually made with butternut squash and pumpkin pie spice and maple syrup (yum). That means it’s healthy, right, since it’s a vegetable….

This looks like such a yummy treat to beat the heat here in South Florida, and remind me that my favorite time of year will be here sooner than I think….. :)

I totally fell off the bandwagon with my Friday Inspiration posts, but I’m going to try to start doing them again, because I love finding new quotes, photos, and interesting design to share.

I spotted this awesome quote on Pinterest and LOVED it! It reminds me of the fact that it’s important to shoot images for myself alongside the work I do for my clients. Why it’s great to keep a personal blog for fun alongside my photography blog for work. Why not every waking moment of my life should be dedicated to work – I need to take time out to enjoy what’s around me, too, even if it means taking a few extra days to finish something than I had originally anticipated. Living and enjoying my life will only make my art better & more interesting. It’s so true!

You can buy this poster on Etsy, too.
