…and his name is Eric Northman! ok, I admit, I kinda dig Bill Compton, too, but I am a Sookie/Eric shipper all the way! The two handsome vampires from the world of Sookie Stackhouse have me completely ensnared…. and I don’t think I’ve been so “into” a book series since I read Twilight almost two years ago (ok, another vampire series, so sue me) or Harry Potter before that.
A week before I left for Las Vegas for the WPPI Convention, I decided to pick up the first couple books in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris (aka the Sookie Stackhouse Novels). I had enjoyed the first season of the show True Blood, which is based on these books (we Netflixed it), and many of my friends including my sister-in-law Lissa, had told me how much they liked the books. Little did I know what I was getting into. Well, now I’m obsessed!
I coasted through the first book, started the next one on the way to Vegas and finished it on the way home from Vegas (didn’t have much time to read at the Convention). I also finished the third book on the plane home from Vegas and got halfway through the fourth. Yes, I’m a very quick reader and these books are easy, fun reads. Needless to say, I read the entire series (about 10 books) in around 5 days total. I am on pins and needles anticipating the next book, which is not coming out for another month and a half!
Thanks to my friend (and client) Alissa, I’m on to another vampire series, House of Night, which is definitely a more juvenile series (no racy chapters really…haha) and has a lot more cheese, but is still fun. I’m up to book 4 so far and it’s keeping me occupied until the next Sookie book comes out at the beginning of May.
All this reading has been such a welcome change – I haven’t taken time for books in a long time. Actually, since I read the Twilight novels… which means I haven’t picked up a book in about two years… sad actually. But I’ve been working so hard. It’s been such a relief to be able to lay in bed at night and slip into another world where vampires, witches, and faeries exist, for 30 minutes while I read myself to sleep! I’m definitely going to try to do this more often and I think I’ll even set a goal, since I’m already halfway there (13 books) and it’s almost March! I wonder if I can read 25 books this year?
